No, generic gasoline is exactly the same as most branded gasolines. The difference being you can't use an oil-company credit card to pay for it.

The state and local regulations on gasoline are what dictates quality of gasoline. Not someone calling generic gasoline a lower quality gasoline. Most likely it is someone from a brand name product calling it a lower quality of gas. Their sales must be booming for someone to make such a statement.
