I read an interview with Met's manager Willie Randolph the other day and he said that Milledge is ready and could be the starting RF any day, but in the interview he also said that Green provides veteran presence which the club is really big on.
...essentially what that translates to is this: Shawn Green is making way too much money to be a bench player. The Mets don't want the guy with a $12 million salary sitting on the bench waiting for pinch-hit opportunities.
I think Milledge is ready and would thrive if given the job outright, but given Green's contract status and the team's inability to move him anywhere, I'd expect Milledge to end up starting the year in AAA...again.
I hope that answers your question.

Milledge, hands down. Shawn Green is approaching retirement age and the Mets have too much invested in Milledge to NOT start utilizing him. Look for the Mets to platoon the two at the beginning of the season, slowly weaning Lastings into a permanent spot.

My guess is that Randolph's comments about Milledge being ready to play was just a motivational thing for Green. He's got such a laid back way of approaching things that it seems like he's not trying. I know he's a veteran, but haven't the Mets in their history been a little too fond of slightly over-the-hill veterans? I hope Milledge gets the chance, improves his attitude, and goes on to have a great year.

Lastings Milledge.
Everything you've stated is right on the money. Green is on a 1-15 slump and the mets had hoped he would fine his swing back almost 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately, thats not the case so Milledge will probably take that position now. It would be best for the team if he did anyways.

Shawn Green because of his experience but once he gets hot they'll eventually trade him away to get a pitcher and use milledge in right field

It will be Green to start the season. Milledge is a better player but his attitude is terrible and he will never be a regular starter until it changes.

Shawn Green. And he's healthy for the first time in a while, so expect that apple to rise in the outfield a lot this year when he's at the plate. I saw him play with the Dodgers a couple years back, and when he's healthy - he's got a sweet stroke.
