Er, which operating system are you using?
With XP, plug-in flash memory devices such as USB drives, digital storage cameras, and MP3 players have built-in support.

With Win9x, you need to install a driver before the operating system can recognise flash memory devices. If you are using Win9x, then re-install the USB driver which may have come with your USB drive.

If you are using XP, then plug in the device
in and double click the My Computer icon on the desktop. You should be able to see an icon for the device. If you double click the icon, then File Explorer should come up.
If you right-click the icon, and click on Properties, then you should be able to find a setting which tells XP what to do whenever your USB driver is plugged in, such as popping up File Explorer. If the AutoPlay setting does not work, there is a program called 'AutoPlay Fixer' on Microsoft's web site which let's you reset the registry settings for your USB AutoPlay devices. This means that the next time you plug in your USB drive, XP will pop up a window which asks you which program to run whenever you plug in that device.

Try plugging the USB drive into a friend's computer which is running XP or Vista. If you can't access the USB drive, then the USB drive circuitry has been damaged and you can't get your data back. (This is why I prefer to use memory cards instead of these USB memory devices.)
