so i recieved some of both~ I am going to take both sets to the hospital to see which one he prefers..(i heard the soothie ones they give you are difficult to purchase, and i dont want him to get hooked on them early!) but my question is:

which do you prefer the most? are there health differences in either (genetically, nobody is allergic to either latex, or silicone)

Thanks! and Have a great day!! **Happy Monday!**

The Soothies you can get at Wal-Mart are not the exact same! I got a vanilla scented Soothie from the hospital when my son was born. (12-16-06) It was the only pacifier Evan would take. Well, in comes the jealous puppy, and the sleep deprived mommy who leaves the paci on the couch. Needless to say, the paci got chewed to death. I got some replacements at Wal-Mart, and they were different. The silicone is slightly thicker on the Wal-Mart versions. I did find the Soothie site though, and they sell the vanilla ones. Oh, and at Target, you can get the First Years brand Soothie Keeper. Soothies don't have regular handles, they have a little nub. These special keepers hold the nub.

At the hospital, they also gave him a Nuk. It was latex. Eww.

After working in a daycare, I saw that the latex breaks down a whole lot faster than silicone, and after you boil it to steralize it, the latex gets sticky. Lint and hair stick to it bad!

Also, just a note, Don't open them all! I was able to take all mine back and trade them in for stuff I actually needed after he was born. I was able to take back bottles, and paci's and paci keepers. Evan will not even take a paci now, unless I give him his Soothie to chew on when he is teething.

Well there is good news about the soothies, they are now in WalMart stores and they have a great website. Other than that your baby will decide. I have had a latex taker and a silicone taker.

Well i give my daughter a silicone one and she seemed to like it better than the latex one. Besides that i am allergic to latex so i really didn't want to have a reaction every time i gave it her! lol

I would definetly go with the Silicone. The latex ones taste nasty. I always gave my babies the silicone ones. I found them easily at Wal-Mart.

I am not pro binkie... Thats just my choice. I n ever used one with my daughter and she did fine... To me they just seem so unsanitary...

Anyway most parents I know prefer the silicon ones... My sister in law thinks they hold up better.

I agree to bring the ones you actually plan to use with you to the hospital. This way there will be no confusion... Just make suure you give one to the nurse so they have it in the nursery...

my prefrence would be silicone although i never used one for my child..... one thing to think about, if you plan to breast feed hold off on introducing a pacifier till baby is established with their feedings.
