I recommend contemporary novels written in everyday language. They will help your conversational skills. Try books by Mary Higgins Clark. They are mystery books, and well written.

I recommend reading abridged versions of the classics of literature. These are books written for adults, but the book is shortened and some of the language is simplified.

I read an abridged version of "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens and an abridged version of "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott. Both were good stories and are considered classics in the English language.

The only advice I have is Judy Blume.
I am not sure how old you are but some classics for women that just about every woman has read are books by Judy Blume. Easy to read and when you read them as your older they are nostalgic.
You can also try Charlotte Temple by Susanna Rowson. Not a childrens book and a very good story.

Well start off with maybe childrens books as they wont use complicated language or vocabulary

then maybe read a novel after you kind of better at it that isnt heavy reading and is enjoyable (i suggest a clive cussler book)

and of course look up words you come across and dont know in a dictionary

Honestly. Look in the kids department. Get picture books that are as advanced as you can find. Then move on to yound adult. You need to learn/grow as kids would.
