While certainly those movies which have some sort of religious implication in their theme predominantly involve Christianity, I would hazard to guess that the majority of horror movies have no religious theme.
As for why those that do predominantly involve Christianity, the answer seems fairly simple to me. Christianity is the world's largest religion. Secondly it is clearly the predominant religion in those markets where movies are typically shown. Think about it. If a horror movie were released with a Muslim theme, how many Americans would even understand it? Its purely and simply an effort to attract the largest number of viewers.

Because the psychology of that religion has horror themes repeatedly. The image of a dead man hanging on a cross, for one thing. Morbidity is fodder for morbidity.

Remember Christians, you've had your extremists too.
They're trying to target an Christians as an audiance so that they can make money off of them when they come to see that movie.

Countries most into movie making are Christian dominated countries. US, UK, Italy. There is money in them thar movies too. That is why you shouldn't be surprised to see one coming from Japan or India.

Since the vast majority of Americans are christian, they will be able to understand whatever religious plots are involved. It would be hard for us to follow a movie based on say, buddishm.
