San Antonio, especially on the north side, has scorpions. My family moved there in the early 80s into a new subdivision. All the home construction kept stirring up scorpion nests. We'd be sitting there in the den watching TV at night when one of the little things (about 2 or 2-1/2 inches long) would suddenly skittle across the tiles from the back door. My brothers and I became quite adept at dropping encyclopedia volumes on them!
Never saw snakes and never saw spiders for the time my family was there (I lived in Houston or College Station most of that time), but there were also lots of fire ants. We also had a bout of Africanized honeybees, but that seemed to vanish by the mid-80s.

There are no more poisonous critters in San Antonio than anyplace else in the world. All places have some form of critter that is not the healthiest to be bitten by.
the Brown Recluse spider is found in most areas of the USA.
Tarantulas found in the southwest are not poisonous although they can deliver a nasty bight, as can scorpions who's sting is pretty bad. There are no Alican Scorpions in Texas that I now of that are deadly. They are in Mexico.
Many places in the south have various poisonous snakes
So don't pick on just San Antonio, there are poisonous things all around you were ever you live.

We lived in San Antonio for 3 years and I never saw any of these... However, when hiking with "locals", we were advised to wear long pants tucked into leather boots "just in case"! We had friends who had just built a home and had to have the exterminator because of scorpions but I understand they are not dangerous, just a bothersome thing, like ants... They are a smaller variety than what we see in pet stores. DO watch out for the fire ants, though! Be cautious walking through grassy areas... and keep away from mounds of dirt! We are from New England and had quite an adjustment to the ants in TX. We were not comfortable allowing our baby to crawl on the grass or waking in sandals in grass... I loved San Antonio though! Hope you enjoy your time there!

Sure, there are plenty of rattle snakes, tarantulas and scorpions around the SA area. My grandparents have killed many snakes at their house over the years. As far as scorpions go, it seems like they come in waves based on weather and what's going on around you. For a while, my folks had scorpions around their house all the time. My sister got bit several times when she put on boots that were on the porch. She turned over the boot and an adult female scorpion and lots of little baby scorpions fell out. As far as tarantulas go, I used to play softball in SA when I was a kid and there were tarantulas all over the field, near the southeast side.

The only place your going to find these critters is tramping out in the brush..Ive lived here 3 years and havent seen any poisenous things....The only annoying thing in Texas that I see are the fire ants, which always come out after it rains...you will see mounds of dirt, ,just make sure you dont step on it..You will know it after the fact....No fun to step in..

They are about as common as cowboy boots, pickup trucks, long legged cowgirls and blue jeans.
