I always say I love animals but then I eat them. (Cows, pigs, etc.). Am I a hypocrit?

I love animals, too. I understand your dilemma. I know if I had to slaughter the animals myself for meat I would become a vegetarian real fast!

No I don't think you are a hypocrit. It's part of life. I love baby animals, puppies, kittens, rabbits, etc. I love pigs, cows too I love milk, steak and bacon sandwiches. You are normal. Unless you go around killing animals for fun, and just leaving them to suffer and die. Like Pigs, and cows. We need meat to survive. You don't eat puppies, dogs, cats and kittens or rabbits do you? That's not what we do in the U.S. at least I don't.

Yes, I love animals. I take care of a rabbit, and I have greatly reduced the amount of animals, or animal products I eat.
I am not calling you a hypocrite, you seem aware of the contradiction already.

No you are not a hypocrite. I love animals too but the preditor/prey equation has been around for millenia. I have horses and dogs and I love them all but I would eat every one of them before I would let myself or my family starve. Think of a wolf eating a cute little baby lamb. Then think of the cute little baby wolves starving to death if their momma didn't go hunt little baby lambs. Then think of the cute little baby lions starving to death if the momma didn't go out and kill the cute little baby wolves....and so it goes. Consider this--no animals die of old age in the wild. When they become old and slow they become someones supper. Life and death-- all part of the same cycle.

Everything dies. A little sooner, a little later, it matters little. We humans seem to think that living as long as possible is a good thing. I'm not so sure it always is.

Taking advantage of a good source of protein is not a sin.

Mistreating them before they die, or killing them inhumainly is a different matter.

Love and blessings Don

YEP!!! That's what that means.

How can you claim to love something (especially something living) then eat it??????

Or is the term used as: I LOVE steak!!!! If you have a dog or cat and you "love" them, would you eat them???

Define "Love" then try to define what it means as applied to animals, yourself, others, life etc etc etc.

I don't eat meat nor do I claim I love animals... I actually pity them. However, it is certainly hypocrisy to eat meat on the one hand and claim general love for the animals on the other hand.... unless you wait for the animals to die naturally before eating its meat!

humans are remarkably vain in believing that animals are put here solely for us. as if they have no other purpose than to serve (feed) us. i'm no vegetarian but i consider myself an animal lover and i think they have the right to live independent of us. there were animals here before us too so it seems they aren't here just for us, we just happen to be at the top of the food chain.
