the lg U880 is only desgined for the three network.
unlocking the phone will only unlock the gsm 900 band and the 3g portents of this network

Well the main question I have for you is.. Does the phone recognize the sim card? If not it should be saying "Insert SIM" or something to that effect. If it shows "T-mobile" on the screen (to show that you do have service) you would need to call T-mobile customer care and see if they will help you. They will not guarantee data/text service on unlocked phones, but you should be able to make/recieve calls providing the phone has been correctly unlocked.

Was your phone originally on the 3 network? If it was its possible that it hasnt been unlocked properly. The only people who can unlock your phone is 3.
