Most times not at all. Most craft shows have the required licenses and what nots to legally authorize the sale of things. You pay a fee for space and some of that goes toward the license. Like I said, most craft shows you do not need a license but for those that do require you to have a business license they normally will say so in the application.

Some craft shows are like yard sales and than there are some that are like elaborate expo's. If you have a good product (If you are going to sale at a craft show than you believe that you do) it wouldn't hurt to get a business license. They are not expensive to apply for and they give you legal right to put your product in fast forward.

I have some good friends who are crafters and though they have a business license they did not have one always. As their product became more and more popular they wanted to promote their product on a more upscale level so they got their license just to give themselves the legal rights to do so.

Check the requirements of the show itself and see what their rules and criteria are. Secondly, look into getting a business license, a tax ID and maybe some legal/tax advice. Granted you do not need a tax ID, nor do you necessarily need legal and/or tax advice. They are just things that can be helpful in the long run, just something to think about.

Curioulsy, what type of product(s) do you make and plan to sale? Do you belong to any type of professional crafting organizations?

Good Luck

No, you do not need a license. Most craft shows will only require you to submit an application of entry as well as an entry fee for booth 'rental'.
