I just recently moved to Maadi from the US. I need to find a good, reputable hair salon. It doesn't have to be in Maadi. Just somewhere in Cairo.

Go to Kriss in Aswan Sq. in Mohandeseen ask for Walid to make your hair he is really good (Kriss also has a salon in Korba - Heliopolis above Maghrabi optics ask for allen he is the best there). or go to Ahmed and Abdo in Mohie al deen Abo el ezz st. the salon is just next to New Fridays in Mohandeseen . these to salons are really good and they know how to deal with Foreigners.

SoCalGal-
I'm just guessing, but it looks like you may be from Southern California, or at least that is what you want people to think.

I am a male and don't usually get all hung-up on hair issues while traveling abroad. On my recent, excellent stay in Cairo, I found that one of my best pleasures was getting a shave. I had never had such a great feeling, outside of the sexual experiences I have been blessed to have in the past.

I actually spoke with the owner/manager of the hotel where I was staying. I assummed she was going to recommend that I go to a place near here hotel, but no, she told me to take a nice long walk, and gave me clear directions. It was excellent! If I saw a lady with great hair, I would be so bold as to ask her if she could help me get an appointment there.

Taxi drivers know almost everything you will ever need to know, but I do believe that they are 100% males. This would certainly limit the expertise that you could bank upon. Women that work in banks in Cairo are very customer-friendly, and also have spectacular hair styles. I'd not hesitate to ask one of them for guidance. They could tell you the name of the hairdresser, call you a taxi, and tell the taxi driver in his own language where to take you.

Maybe a scarf and/or hat is all you need? I'd guess that a SoCalGal has much more to offer Cairo than a good head of hair. But, if they treat you as well as they treated me, with the scalp rubs, and neck rubs, and use of oils and lotions, it is an experience that you will always remember. Minimal money, also!

Let me know how the hair adventure turned out?

I prefer hair which is shoulder length or longer, And also since that men who like ladies are more often then not directly, they like long hair because it looks more feminine, as most males have short hair.
