You set reasonable goals, work toward those goals, suffer setbacks and failures, overcome the setbacks and learn from the failures.

People who lack self-esteem hold onto minor setbacks and their failures: they see them as some sort of validation of their low self-worth, and instead of learning from their mistakes they resign themselves to the belief that they cannot be any different, do not deserve, or are incapable of acheiving anything better.

Still others with "low self-esteem" really have other problems (personality disorders, mental illness, physical disabilities, etc) that they are either incapable of dealing with or which shape their reality to the point where they doubt their own worth.

SELF-esteem... comes from SELF, of course. But it can be affected by different factors in our lives, like family, friends, upbringing, environment, and so on.

deep inside your head, and the world around you helps to form your self esteem.
It is something you start with very young, your parents help to form it, I look at my kids now 8 and 5 and hope their self esteem is higher than mine, I can see it in my daughter who is 8 but not so much in my son, something we need to work on

I THINK IT COMES FROM THE WAY YOU ARE BROUGHT UP AND TREATED. AFTER THAT IT COMES FROM THE OUTSIDE WORLD LIKE YOUR FRIENDS AND THE WAY THEY TREAT YOU AND THEN WHEN YOU GET MARRIED IT COMES FROM YOUR SPOUSE AND THE WAY THEY TREAT YOU.
