i got a new sony vaio, and when i click 'safely remove hardware' it says that 'hardware can safely be removed..."
but my usb key light is still on and my ipod says: "do not disconnect"on my previous laptop the usb light would turn off when i ejected the device....
i usually end up just pulling it out now....

what can i do to make sure im ejecting it safely? is it really bad to pull it out?

i used to hae a similar problem. i would sugest making sure that you do not have any programs runing that are using the device for example if you use you ipod and itunes try shutting down itunes and then trying to eject and then pulling out. although it is rare that on a windows operating system there would be a problem there is still the posiblity that some data may become corrupt

Try seeing if system restore is protcting the drive...if it is, uncheck the tab for the usb drive and then try to safely remove it...might be that!
