This question was on recently, But OK....anyways~~~ Been married now 29 years to the same guy, We dated 6 months before he proposed, We were married 4 months after that Total dating time was 10 months then We Married, we knew right away it was true love and wanted to be together all the time. I believe if you are really in Love you will know in your heart, some people wait years because they are afraid of commitment, If you wait until you can afford it, you'll never get married, something always comes along. We waited 4 years before starting having babies to get to better know one another. We now have 3 grown children. Good Luck I wish you the best....

I think you should at least date 2 years before getting engaged. I think living together before hand is also a good idea so you can see all there little annoying quirks they have and see if you can handle that.

We dated 2 years before getting engaged. But we dated about or close to 4 1/2 years before getting married.

There isn't a time limit for either. I was engaged for 2 1/2 years, during that time, we both got to know each other throughout different situations and see how we worked them out together. A couple of time we butted heads, but even with this, we learned to talk and work together to solve minor & major problems, without getting into big fights. We both had parents that serious marriage problems and wanted to be sure we didn't continue their mistakes. At the beginning, we decided that communication was our parents biggest mistake or lack of it. To date - which is 25 years later, we talk about everything, Never have I hit him or vise-versa and that includes name calling. When it comes to our children, what ever the first parent says, goes, and then we'll discuss it later especially if we disagree. Who says fairytales can't happen...when you find that person, who can still treat you like a person, not a doormat or your opinion doesn't matter, then your on your way.

Date and/or live together for at least 2-4 years before getting engaged/married. It takes a long time to get to know someone before you decide to spend the rest of your life with that person!

We dated a year before we got engaged, but I would have married him within 3 months of dating him. Before we had ever gone out, I had taken the time to decide whether or not I would be willing to marry him, if things ever went that way. So I didn't have to think about the "marriage issue" much once we started dating. I already knew that I would be happy with being his wife, and having him as my husband. So, basically, I waited for him to decide it was what he wanted and that he was ready.

Hi! My sweetie and I dated for 3 years, and were engaged for 1 year before the big day. At the time it felt like the dating would go on forever, but now I can say it was definitely worth the wait. We got to know each other very well over those 3 years and I believe it has helped us to have a very solid marriage.

Best wishes to you!

I'm engaged and getting married this June, but me and my fiancee have been engaged for 2 months now and there are people who think we're crazy but we have only been dating for 6 months. So dated for 4 months before getting engaged. I thought it was crazy at first, but we both know this is right. So every situation and every relationship is different. there is no set time length for any of this.

Well, my husband and I dated for about 7 months before we got engaged, and were engaged for 7 months and 7 days.

It seemed like the perfect amount of time for both!

We were together about 4 years (2 years of that living together) before we got engaged.
