E6300(~180$) is a must have processor because of its overclocking abilities. You can overclock E6300 processor from the default 1.86GHz frequency all the way to 3.50GHz (88% increased speed). All you need is a good motherboard(~170$) and a good memory capable of operating at 1000MHz(~125$) . An overclocked E6300 is better than QX6700(~1000$)!!! E4300 is also a very good processor that can be overclocked till 2.7 GHz. Pentium 4 D is ancient technology. Even an Pentium 3 is faster than a Pentium 4 at the same frequency. Until Core 2 Duo AMD processors were the best. Now Intel has regain the first place. I use a E6300 an I'm very pleased with its performance and stability.

Pentium D and Core 2 Duo both have 2 CPUs, the former using Pentium 4s. The Higher GHz P4D will be faster on some things but the C2D will win on others due to more efficient processors, larger caches and faster memory. Tell me which one you want and I will suggest a benchmark to prove that it is faster. My free benchmarks and results can be found at:

The green solution is the C2D as it uses far less power.
