You can't get VV 1 or VV2 in the shops, they are only available to buy via a download site such as Big Fish or LDW who designed the game.
You could give EA's The Sims or The Sims 2 a go, the original Sims is available very cheaply now for the complete collection, the 2 game and EP's are still a little pricey though depending where you get them from.
If you have a local GAME shop or equivalent go in and have a look at what sim games they have for the PC (which are usually pretty cheap anyway and they have a good selection).

It's a great game, there are 2 out now - A New Home and The Lost Children. They are cheaper if you join their Game Club. You can then cancel your account.
