If the only way a person can debate with another party is by insighting prejudices.... what does that say about that person.
LBJ President, states after the Civil Rights bill is enacted
"We have lost the South for a generation"
The bill was sent to the House of Representatives, and referred to the House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Emmanuel Celler. After a series of hearings on the bill, Celler's committee greatly strengthened the act, adding provisions to ban racial discrimination in employment. The bill was reported out of the Judiciary Committee in November 1963, but was then referred to the Rules Committee, whose chairman, Howard W. Smith, indicated his intention to keep the bill bottled up indefinitely

Kimmie has some really interest logic. I'm not aware of any republican in congress who is a member of the KKK. However, Robert Byrd, a democrat was a member. Therefore, using her flawed logic, all democrats are kkk members. Ridiculous.
The Republican Party was founded as an anti-slavery party. The Civil Rights acts only passed because of republicans. It was Ronald Reagan who made Martin Luther Kings' birthday a national holiday. On and on. Remeber Lincoln.
Anyone who ties the Republican Party as a whole to the KKK doesn't know history.

Very interesting question and documentation.
Unfortunately, most of America doesn't do their homework, especially those that receive the most in entitlements.
When an issue is debated, that is good. When an issue cannot be debated, then it falls from grace and becomes a platform for name calling and ideologue rhetoric.
The rest of us choose up sides as if it were some silly dodge ball contest and hurl epithets at each other, lacking any real understanding of the issue or its impact on our nation.
I fear that the amount of negative rhetoric you find here in Yahoo, may be indicative of a cross section of America. And if that is the case, there is far too much emotional response to issues and far too much negativity.
We all, as Americans, need to take a deep breath and re-learn what our responsibilities are as a free and self-governing people.
Every right or power given over freely to the federal or state governments results in a reduction of our individual freedom and liberty.
This can only happen when Americans are busy yelling at each other while those elected to represent us are busy at work wheeling and dealing our rights away.
They are the true enemy in America. Not liberals, or conservatives.

I believe that the only Segregationist/KKK Member in Congress is Democrat Robert Byrd of West Virginia, a State that sided with the Union in the Civil War. A lot of Democrats like to cite the segregationist views once promoted by Strom Thurmond as he was a Republican, but they forget that he was a Democrat who renounced his segregationist views when he left the Democratic party and joined the Republicans.

The racist Republican is a LIEberal invention, an attempt, and a successful one, by the Democrats to libel Conservatives as racial chauvinists. I heard Jerry Springer on his radio show saying that the Republicans were against Civil Rights.
It is sad that people believe it, especially when the Democrats are far more racist than Republicans. I am neither, and I am against all forms of racial chauvinism.

The poster below says that most republicans are in the KKK. Can you mention who they are? Do you have any proof to back that up? I suggest you hit the history books and see how many republicans vs democrats are/were in the KKK. You may be in for a surprise.

I never have. The KKK was started to suppress the black vote in the south, because that black vote went Republican. The KKK was the terrorist wing of the Democrat party, and on many levels, still is.

No...I don't. I think that members of the KKK may be conservative and call themselves Christian...but that doesn't make the republicans or Christians members of the KKK. Just what are you trying to argue with this point?
