If you were an avid reader you would be able to spell almost anything. Especially if you did a lot of reading as a child.

Since you are probably a teen and your idea of reading is Seventeen Magazine, you'll have to look up vocabulary.

Seeing a word is just as important as writing it.

The theory is that it will help you improve your spelling and keep the spelling in your memory.

If you search the word on the internet - you will get suggestions which should help - and you are improving your knowledge.

Also - learning is supposed to be pro-active and you should be responsible for your own learning and not expect to be spoon fed.

Because we should always learn. Even Isac newton said that he is a boy playing with pebbles on the sea shore while the vast ocean of knowledge lied undiscovered before him.Do you know all things and don't have to learn more?

er, wouldn't that be so you can make yourself understood when you write something? The trouble with people who can't spell properly is that you simply can't understand what they're saying half the time!

I feel your pain.
However, it has been shown that looking up something on your own helps you remember it better than being merely told it. It forces you to think about what you don't know.

If you are asked to look it up, chances are you have enough letter-sound sense to be able to know where in the dictionary to begin. Plus it makes you more self-reliant.
