if my baby is only in 5th percentile due to aging placenta

The reason healthcare providers worry about overdue babies is that the placenta gradually loses the ability to provide adequate nutrient and oxygen to the baby. A placenta gathers calcium deposits as it ages; those can be picked up with an ultrasound, and can indicate how old the placenta is.

Sometimes a placenta ages faster than average, and the deposits show up earlier. At that point they start calculating the ability of the placenta to feed your baby. 5th percentile means lower than average, but I wouldn't say you or your child are in imminent danger -- you're only a few weeks away from your due date anyway! Your doctor or midwife should be keeping a close eye on the situation, and will let you know if you need to be induced early.

Best of luck!

I'm guessing that your not that big even though your 35.5 weeks? the 5th percentile means that your baby is very small, usually the doctors like for the baby to be above the 10 percentile I'm 34.5 weeks and i went in for an ultra sound due to low amniotic levels and found that my baby is in the 33 percentile and i look as if I'm only 4 months pregnant. as far as the aging placenta its just wearing out faster than it should. so dont be surprised if you have the baby within the next couple of weeks. but rest assure that your baby should be developed enough at this point to ensure a safe arrival
best wishes

It means your baby is on the small side and your placenta 'wearing out' before the average 40 weeks. There will be a point where the baby will do better outside of mom and when that happens the doctors will decide to include. A baby is considered 'full term' starting at 37 weeks, so IF the doctors decided to induce tomorrow, baby would only be 1 week preemie and with today's baby care you and baby should do fine.

The threat of an aging placenta is why doctors induce at no later than 42 weeks. The placenta at that age begins to deteriorate and not function properly enough to get the baby the nutrients and oxygen that he/she needs. I don't know why you are experiencing this so early, unless maybe your dates are QUITE a ways off. In any case, speak with your doctor to find out exactly what this means to YOUR situation and if in fact the placenta is deteriorating badly I'm sorry to tell you but prepare yourself to be induced...they won't let the baby stay without proper nourishment.

Ma'am the best advice is going to be, consult your doctor.

I honestly never heard of that before and don't understand why your doctor didn't tell you. If it's a bad thing, I would hope he would do a C-Section and take the baby.
God Bless You.
