A friend of mine had something similar happen to them but with the price-drop tv channel. An unknown person got her details and then bought things on her account.

She went to the solicitors and they took them to court but only because she could prove she wasn't even in the country at the time/date of most of the orders. She got a very large payout and now just doesn't use them!!

It did take almost a year to get the compensation but it was definately worth it - talk to a solicitor or the Citizens Advice

Hope everything works out for you!

Under section 42 of the Data Protection Act 1998 you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioners Office (ICO.gov.uk). The Commissioner has the power to award compensation.

You can also call the Helpline on 01625 545 745 for advice to help you to solve the problem.

It has never happened to me ..but i do know that if the phone company has given out personal information to a third party without confirming all the security details first , they have committed a breach of the data protection act and can be taken to court and prosecuted which can incur hefty fines for the company.
£20 seem small compensation for what you have been through as a result of this.

Good this problem is in all place, in exchange they offer a thousand wonders that in fianl does not give in nothing, the best one to make is not to accept the claims and to enter with a legal action.
