How about cheaper car insurance and lower road taxes in exchange for more expensive public transportation? That would be equally unfair.
Those who use should be the ones who pay. If money is tight and you don't have a car, look for other ways to save money. If you use the bus, train, or subway everyday for work, take advantage of a commuter pass. If money is still tight, cut in other areas.
I find that some used items work just as well as new items. I found a guitar at the Salvation Army at a bargain price of $40.00. It needed one new string, but was otherwise in good condition. Garage sales are another place for bargains.
I price auto insurance every couple of years or so to be sure I pay the lowest rate possible. Sometimes it means switching companies and letting the old company know why I'm switching. If everyone did that, rates would go down. Taking the defensive driver course knocks 10 off the comprehensive and collision portion of your insurance premium for 3 years, lowering the rate even further. There's a fee for the course, but you've recuped the cost of the course within the first 6 months or so.

I'm a car driver, i prefer it than public transportation
Actually it depends But in most cases i would Buy a car and pay for every thing including gas :-) niether than using public transportation. 'couse Not all the times the Transportation is available, besides it might costs you on long term more than your own car fees including insurance and road taxes
YOU CAN buy a cheap, simple and good fuel consumption car which will cost less insurance

No Definitely not, Gordon Brown and the Labour Party are intending to raise the road tax on 4x4 s and SUV's to £400 per annum we should as motorists vote the Labour Party out of office. This is a ludicrous Tax, UK Public Transport is the most expensive in the World never mind Europe. eg:-
2 adults by train to Dorset costs 6 times the cost of travel by car and just as long.
Vote Labour OUT and get the Tax rescinded.

I don't use public transportation, so, NO, I would never support any move for higher taxes of any kind. Car insurance is already a big rip off without raising the price on it.

No Way, I pay enough now for what I get out of it. Public Transport will have to get a great deal better before I would give up my car. Also I would like a bus stop at the end of my road. The nearest at the moment is a mile away. I think the motorist is the most taxed people in the country. Now they want us to pay tolls to use roads we already contributed towards building....NO. WAY.

no.. I will not ride on public trans... it is not a good thing..
even more so with terrorism... i dont want to be one of those people like in spain.. riding along then BANG.. dead
\
besides... isnt the tax on gas like 5 times what the oil companies make.. and i think the politicians are cring that they the oil companies are making to much money.. so if they are.. then the gov is really making to much..
also I am tired of paying for things I dont use or need...
you use it.. pay the price.. I dont think i should have to foot the bill for things I dont use...
police/fire/hosptials /water/sewer/military and even if I dont have kids.. educations... are all things I think we should pay for... but i think i should get to send my money to the school i like... thats another story for another time

Would you like to pay more income tax to support the lazy homeless, the opportunist immigrants on welfare, the lower class on food stamps, and President Bush's private oil war. Get a frickin' car like everyone else then!!!
