It order to set up a web site on the Internet, the files for that site have to be located on a computer that will be running 24/7/365. It also have to have enough bandwidth (Internet speed) to allow multiple people to access the page at the same time. And it has to be located on a computer with a public IP address that will never change.
Because most people can not leave their computers running all the time, most ISP's will not give you enough bandwidth to run a webite, and normally your IP address changes with every reboot of the PC, it is difficult to run a website from your own computer. (And I haven't even mentioned the amount of hardware and software you would need to protect your computer against hackers, etc.)
So most people have to put their website on a professional computer desgined just for the purpose of running (or hosting) websites. Most host will provide not only 24/7 access to your site, but extras such as mailboxes, scripts for submitting forms, templates for creating your website, etc. Plus they are there 24/7 to handle things whould there by a problem, a hacker attack, a power outage, etc.
So "web hosting" is storing and running other people's websites for them.

It is a web space (You buy) to host your sites & files.. There are many out there but the most important in web hosting is finding the right hosting for money with the best quality and uptime (Uptime is the time the site is online and not off the internet when the servers are down-most companies have 99% uptime)
For me, i found a host that fulfills all these things & has the best support i saw yet (reply guarantee in less than a day), with easiest control panel.. Their prices are very reasonable compared to others and against the specs they give (Space/bandthwidth etc)..
You can try http://www.lonex.com..
Hope this helps & good luck, :)

Web hosting is simply space on a web server to house your data to be available on the internet at all times. The most common form is web pages, but can include such other things as databases, email, streaming media etc..
You need the following to get started:
1) Domain Name
2) Web Hosting
3) Design (site content)

Web hosting will allow you to upload your webpages and people could visit your webpages. Without web hosting, you could not publish your webpages.
I would like to suggest following webhosting , they are excellent.
Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukenden/
They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 200000 MB (200 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.
Visit the site to check details.

Domains
Following site is quite good to register domains as price is reasonable with free privacy. Some charge about $5/ year just for free privacy.

if you get web hosting that means the company will let you upload your site on their server and you wont have to buy your own server....and when buying web hosting packages each package and each company provides different kinds of hosting....some have php, sql, asp, jsp, and aspx and microsoft frontpage extensions support...these are different languages used by the servers to do things....like if you have a company site and you want people to be able to contact you....you will have to make a contact page that will use a php script to e mail the data to your address....but if your just a person who wants personal websites and doesnt need all these special functions they can use any hosting....even without php and stuff....each hositng company has its own features some dont provide php asp etc....there are a few different types of hosting servers too...some are linux and unix servers and some companies provide windows hosting.....windows hosting is a lot better than unix hosting....windows hosting servers is easier to use than linux and unix ...if you are thinking of getting a personal server ...to use advanced php and sql data bases you will need to change a lot of settings to allow databases...and stuff in the unix and linux servers...but in windows servers your not in a dos like enviroment giving dos like complicated commands....so its easier to use a windows server and it usually allows databases and stuff automattically....
and a lot of companies provide different ammounts of space...now that depends on your needs...and what your gonna do with the site...if its a personal site with just a few programs and pictures and 10 to 20 pages then 50mb is enough
but if you want a few 100 pages then youl need a lot more like 5 or 6gb or more...
1000 bytes = 1 kilobyte(KB)
1000 kilobytes(KB) = 1 mega bytes(MB)
1000 megabytes(MB) = 1 gegabytes(GB)
1000 gegabytes = 1 tera byte(tb)
thats just so you know how to estimate how much the size of your site will be and how much space you need...
and good luck with the hosting....hope your sites good....best of luck....hope some of this helped....
