For music and movies, you don't need downgrading.

But for playing iso games. You need to be in version 1.50 or custom firmware like 3.03 OE-c (which also need to install from 1.50 first).

The reason why people downgrade to 1.50 is because that version allows people to play homebrews. Homebrews are programs written by people which allow the PSP to do lot of different things. But the most noticeable are emulators and dev hook/game loader. Emulators allows people to play games from other system (i.e. Super Nintendo, Gameboy Advances, Playstaion One, etc). Dev. Hook and/game loader allow people to play PSP ISO games.

However, downgrading 1.50 involves significant risk and can make your PSP totally useless. Unless you know what you are doing, I don't think you should downgrade your PSP.

People often think it is good to downgrade to version 1.5 the reason is you can download games in iso format and save them to your memory card without purchasing a game however the isnt as simple as downloading and sending to memory card its very complicated and very overrated as you need like a 4gig mmc card to store 4 games on o and on 1.5 you cant listen to music or watch films and if it brakes and the store find out you downgraded you wont get a refund just stick to the latest if u ask me more pros than cons
