Will give you diarrhoea, possibly make you sick, but that's about it.

I was late with my youngest and I tried everything!

Castor oil is NOT an option though as it's actually bad for you (and not too good for baby either).

I tried hot curry-just made my indigestion worse, walking a lot-my feet swelled up and I was just tired beyond belief(although it does help during labour!) and finally sex. Hubby and I were laughing so hard I'm surprised my son didn't just pop out there and then!

What I'm trying to say is you're going to have to sit tight on this one-if you're not a proud parent by 10 days late then ask about a cervical sweep which although it's uncomfortable does help speed things along(well it did for me) and gives you an idea of whether the cervix is 'thinning' or not-and hence how long you're looking at!

Good luck and hang in there!

No, Castor oil doesn't bring on labor; but, cleaning your colon makes more room. Most people resort to these "urban legend" remedies when they are desperate about how late they think the baby is and by the time they use them the baby is ready to come. Only the baby and God knows how long it's gonna take. 9 times out of 10 most women are so tense and frustrated with the whole pregnancy that they are actually making it harder to tell when things are about to happen. Relax.
Meditate and ease your mind, let go of the tension. If your Dr. isn't talking about rushing the baby; give the poor child a chance to be fully prepared for the world.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\Besides; there ain't nothin' nastier than the taste of Castor oil.

I don't know if castor oil helps or not, but I wouldn't want to deal with its effects while in labor.

Something I heard about and that I think worked for me (or maybe my second time around was just a lot easier) was red raspberry leave tea. It has to be the real thing, not just raspberry flavored. I got mine at a nutrition store. It is used to treat other female issues too.

The last month before I delivered I had a glass iced each day. The day I was due I drank one super strong hot cup. I was at the hospital within an hour and I delivered within four.

I don't know if it will do the same for you, but at least if you try it you won't have any bad side effects. Just plan to be ready to head to the hospital, just in case.

Hi there, your feeling very frustrated right now, i know exactly how your feeling right now. I have just given birth 5 days ago and my lil one was 8 days overdue, so i really do understand, and i have to say don't do the caster oil thing, i tried everything to get my daughter out including caster oil, it didn't work 3 times lol, i was desperate, all it di was make me very uncomfertable, with a very sore tummy. You'll have everyone saying just be patient and she'll come when she is ready, the hardest thing to do i know, but it's best for you to just sit back and relax, whilst you can.

You won't have very long to go, ask your midwife to do a sweep, thats what set me off, i was 2 cm dialated, and within 5 hours i was in established labour.

Good luck and relax, just think in the next 5 days your lil on will be here for you to hold and love xx

My sister used this method with all three of her child births, you can take anywhere from three tablespoons to quater of the bottle. I recommend doing this outside, because the second it goes it your mouth your reaction is to spit it out and gag. It takes a couple of tries before you can successfully swallow it. Don't mix it with the red grape juice, the juice and the oil don't mix, drink the juice in between the takes of the oil, to wash out the icky taste. After words, briskly walk around your house for five minutes, stop, then continue on, making sure you are close to the bathroom, just in case because after all you did just take a heavy laxitive. With the night, you should be in labor as this method works most of the time. Be sure to have your bags ready before you try this because for some people, it works really fast, other times it take a day of waddling around and some take the oil twice if it didn't work the first time, if that happens try again in twelve hours. Congrats on your newborn~!~

well with my first pregnancy i took it and went into labour that night and with my last pregnancy i took it cause i had been in slow labour for a week and the first lot did not touch me i just had very bad sickness and diorreah then i did it a few days later and i went into labour 10 minutes after doing it so it obviously was not the castor oil but castor oil worked for my friend.they say to take about 2oz in orange juice. but it tastes vile i will warn you i actually feel sick now thinking about it. or try other things like take really long walks and curb walking with one foot on the road and one on the curb or going down stairs on your bum or a nice warm bath. and nipple stimulation works. i hope i helped and good luck to you and i hope you have a safe delivery xxx

Just before i had my first child [ just like you i could not wait for her to be born] the midwife gave me a dose of castor oil. It did bring her on faster only bad thing about it was i had a huge poo before she came out. That was soooo embarrassing and it tasted awful, they used to mix it with orange juice so you got the orangy taste afterwards.Good luck with the birth of your baby and i wish you all the best:))

Castor oil will just make you sick. 4 days is not late. Due dates are just estimates, not exact at all by any means. I don't think you would be considered "late" until you pass 41 weeks.

Sorry honey that is an old wives tale, along with eating hot food, a hot bath and a long ride on a bumpy bus! Trust me I tried everything. The best thing to be honest is sex with your partner. His sperm will help your cervix to begin the process. Otherwise talk to your GP about induction, they use bull sperm so your husband/partners must be as good??!! Give it ago if it does'nt work you'll have fun trying.

Hello,

I was about 4 days late and tried castor oil.

it didn't work and the baby came when it was ready about 10 days over.

It is not a good idea to take it, apart from the fact that you will feel really sick as it makes you fart and poo smell really bad, it also looks like frog spawn when you dilute it with water, juice etc....... please don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been there, done that, never again!!!!!!

Sophia!!!
