It depends on what you mean by "children." I work with juvenile sex offenders, and usually by the time they are 8 or 9 - they have offended. I've got a client as young as 4 who has offended. So, children who offend, obviously will likely go on to offend as an adult. That is, most adult offenders began offending as a child. The sign is the act... if that makes sense.
Often, offenders are victims of sexual abuse, and that seems to be the best indicator. Of the perps I've worked with, they are always exposed to some sort of sexuality at an early age. Whether that is molestation, pornography, etc. but there are no tell tale signs...so to speak. It isn't like violent offenses as an adult that we can sometimes trace back to violence towards animals, etc. Although, certainly if your child is showing some sort of sexuality with animals, you want to have it looked at! Often times, the "signs" in childhood are so alarming, that the child is immediately brought in, and it is found then that they have been offending, or have been a victim.
There is plenty of research done on this subject. Check out www.jstor.com and search for what interests you.

There is extensive research on this...
My wife is a fourth yr grad student... She will be a PhD toting Psychologist in about 1 yr.
She just said that the biggest trait in a child that may lead to that behavior as an adult would be being abused them self.

Firstly, an alarming number of pedophiles were victims of sexual abuse in their childhood. I have read books that tell of offenders abused to the point where it is almost inconceivable that they would not grow up with a severely warped sense of sexuality, short of intense therapy, which unfortunately they did not receive until after they were sent to jail.
But all in all there do not seem to be any tell-tale signs that foreshadow pedophilia, perhaps because sexuality is not fully developed till later.

this may or may not make me sound ike a pedophile, but I'm not. But look at what a young person has vs. those of mature age. They have a freshness about them. Smooth tight skin, if we are talking anywhere between 13 and 16 a lot of girls have good bodies. They aren't "used" already. and it is "naughty". All these things would appeal to a sex offender......It's the thought of having that which is unatainable normally......
I'm not real sure but I hope that clears up some wonder.....

i doubt theres much research
possible reason: why should we waste money on this
when we can find a cure for cancer?
higher unlikely that children can become sex offenders in adults
i doubt think children have fantasy about other children
but u can ask if sex offenders are genetically conditioned before birth?
or simply can u be born a sex offender and not know it?
