Well, i don't mean to be picky but rebooting is simply restarting your computer. As for restoring it back to factory settings, you can use a factory restore disc of your computer manufacturer provided you with one, or use a standard XP install CD. Which ever you use, put the disc in the drive and then restart your computer and follow the directions. Make sure to back up all of your stuff before you do this though.

If you just got your Pc this past December, then these is a good change you have a System Restore feature (not the Windows Restore).
Compaq, Gateway, HP, Dell, and a lot of other have this feature. When you start up your machine, watch the screen closely. Right after the BIOS (that is the logo with the computer manufacturer) there may be a message to hit F10 or F11 or F2 to run the system Restore. On Compaq and HP, the message is right on the BIOS splash screen.
This will restore the machine to exactly the same stae it was when you first opened it up and plugged it in. EVERYTHING you have downloaded/installed will be wiped out.
Post back here the manufacturer of your machine and I will see if it has a system restore feature.

It depends on the computer you own....if it is a OEM like Dell, Gateway, IBM etc...they should either have a seperate restore cd that came with the system or they should have a seperate partition on the hard drive that holds the restore info. To do a reformat ( not reboot)...first back up any and all files, pictures and such and then either put the restore cd into the cd/dvd drive and reboot and follow the onscreen instructions or go to the app for restore on your computer...should be in a file folder from the company that made the system.

Do this:
Start/Help&Support/Performance and maintenance/Using system restore to undo changes/Run the system restore wizard.
Now when it comes up pick "Restore my computer to an earlier time". Pick a date before you made the changes, and run the wizard.
Your computer will reboot, and hopefully will be fixed.
NOTE: this is a very safe method, no harm will com to your computer by doing this.

Reformaating is when you erase everything and make it like new, in which case you'd need the discs that came with your pc. Rebooting is when you turn it off and then back on. I'd look to see if you can make a restore point in which it will remove everything from a set point forward. I've done the restore prompt and it's worked for me.

you may have to reformat the hard drive and re-install the operating system as a last resort. What operating system are you using? it may have a feature for just that built in. do you have a "GoBack" program? Try looking under programs/accessories/system tools/system restore and see if it will let you go all the way back.
hope this helps.

try doing a system restore, START>ALL PROGRAMS> ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>SYSTEM RESTORE.
the next screen you will see will have a choice of RESTORE MY COMPUTER TO AN EARLIER DATE or CREATE A RESTORE POINT you want to click on RESTORE MY COMPUTERTO AN EARLIER DATE then click next.
the next screen will have a callender on it, the bold numbering are your restore points, simply pick a date and click restore. make sure the date you pick is a date before your pc started to run slow.
