4 days late is not very much for a first pregnancy.
If you've already felt some cramps, you probably just have to relax mentally and keep active physically. It could be what is called a "hesitant labour": it starts and stops up to half the way through. I had that with my second child, but the problem with me was that the waters were the first thing to go, so I was put on antibiotics until the baby was born two evenings later.
Walking was what really helped. For two mornings I took longish walks, and that started things moving again. What you don't want to do is go too early to a maternity hospital if they're not going to let you walk about, because if the labour slows down again then they want to do all the stuff to you to get it re-started artificially.
But don't leave it too long either, because if the head's engaged and so on, you might end up being quite quick when things do get interesting.
Good luck!

Just hang in there! The best advice I can give - and it sounds crazy- is to try and forget about it. Try to distract yourself with other things. Make it through one day at a time, and believe me, you'll know when the baby is coming for sure! when the time comes, you'll know about it!
The more you think about it, the more you drive yourself crazy and it can go up to two weeks over - especially with your first one! I was sure I was goign to be early and they got my dates wrong, and the head had engaged and I was having minor contractions, but I went 12 days over and it was torture!
I even had a relative come over from Singapore for the due date expecting to see the baby. She stayed for a week and the baby didn't come until a week after she left! Imagine that pressure!
My Mum did a good job of trying to distract me. And we tried all the usual methods of bringing the baby on, but in the end, it just makes you frustrated, and the baby will come when it's good and ready!
Good luck!

oh you poor thing i really sympathise with you my 4 boys were all late ranging from 4 days to 10 days, and i had the pain you are having its just all the wait pushing on your nerves, take this time to get plenty of rest. your midwife will book a inducement date usually for when you get to 10 - 12 days over but the thought of being induced may scare your baby in to coming good luck and i hope all goes well for you.

labor pains do feel like menstrual cramps at first so it could be starting. See if the cramps are timeable yet. try to relax because this is just the beginning hon. That baby will call the shots in so many ways beyond your control for the next 18 years :) good luck and best wishes

Due dates are just estimates. 4 days is not "late". Most Dr's wont even consider induction unless you are past 41 weeks. You really want to try to avoid that unless it's really necessary. Induced women have a higher risk of C-sections and that's surgery.

If you are getting a dull, ache like you would when you are having your period, and you are also suffering from backache, then i would say that you haven.t got long to wait. just check your hospital bag, and have a rest, because once your little one arrives you will not a a minutes peace, good luck, and relax xxx
