do u mean "White lies"?
sometimes, we have to say so
as long as it is harmless
and can protect one's danger
and not cause someone's trouble,
then ok to say...
for example.. someone feed you a dish you dont like, then
you can say him "I am full, not hungry"..etc

The truth is simply the truth. An 'honest lie' seems like quite the paradox to me. If you will be honest.. then be honest.

I think this concept of "white or Honest" lies comes from actually a cowardly perception that we have about hurting the feelings of others. Everyone says that they can handle the truth but many times we know otherwise... so we introduce the little white lies to make them feel better.

Is it wrong? Well it depends... sometimes i thin people need to hear the white lies.. as it would benefit them more than the actual truth. But at other times... some people say white lies just to avoid saying the harsh truth.

there is no such thing as an honest lie. if its a lie then it was done on purpose, whether good or bad outcome is intended.spreading what you believe is not the same ,being misled and being misleading are two different extremes. if you find the truth and like most church people you don't acknowledge it and become accountable for the change in thinking of others you have told a lie, which can hurt people in the long run or not. if you found out jesus actually died on a tree (lynched ) and not a cross but still did not inform your people because of what they belived so long this is still a lie. when does the growth and change come. nothing honest about keeping people in the dark because of tradition or folktale

Honest Lies, thats an oxymoron. A lie is a lie no matter how it is presented. Honesty does not require lying, however one lie requires another to cover it up. If you think the religious right are lying to you, open the Bible and discover the truth for yourself. Lying, muder and theft are all sins and equal to the same punishment when confronted by God.

I think what you are trying to understand is the concept of the "white lie". A white lie is a lie we feel we have to tell to avoid hurting someone else's feelings or to avoid incurring the wrath of someone who has authority over us. For example, a woman and her female friend meet for lunch. One of them has a particularly ugly new haircut but she seems to really like it. She asks her friend's opinion and the friend lies because she doesn't want to hurt the other.
Similarly, your employer wears an ugly, ill-fitting suit but it is new and he expects people to complement him. He's your boss so you give him the answer he wants because it will make your job easier.
Neither of these things is actually moral or the right thing to do but many of us do them because we seek an easy path through life. Some people really don't see that it's a problem.
Hope that helps.
Oh, and religious people aren't telling you lies. They are telling the truth as they see it. They may be right.

Personally, I don't believe in the concept of "white" lies. A lie is a lie. There are three types but all are essentially the same. A manipulation of untruth.

As a Christian I believe one should not lie but we should also love one another. If that means telling Mom dinner was delicious when it wasn't; it's okay. And how do you justify Santa Claus? Didn't the whole world lie to you when you were a kid if they told you he was real? But he was such a great part of the holiday. Yes, I'll tell that lie to my kids.

The phrase is an oxymoron, so that means they are not telling lies. They may be spreading false information, but it's only a lie if it's intentional.

I agree with above, they are just giving out false information, not lying. If they don't know it's a lie then it cannot be called such, not even a white lie. They simply do not know.

If they deceive people on purpose, then it's a lie, even if it's a small one, and especially preachers shouldn't lie.

There is no such thing as an honest lie that's an oxymoron. Now if you are referring to people who are lying but think it is the truth because they are mislead or mistaught or delusional, i do no think it is fair to call that a lie. Just misinformed!

I am a girl but i would like to answer this question. It's all about hypocrisy and puritanism...plus politics. We could make this question to Bush too, maybe he has the right answer, after all, he is the master or honest lies.
