I've been asking people their opinions on various names that I like, but I've become quite discouraged by the negative (and just plain rude!) responses.

I've come to the conclusion that asking total strangers who live on the other side of the world what they think of any given name is a complete waste of time!!!

So how do you go about choosing a name? I've heard that you should go out in public and call it out loud to see if it feels okay (or to see if you get strange looks!)

Parents: how did you narrow down your list and make a decision? What factors did you take into consideration.

Cheers.

Most people worry about naming too much, I think. Just casually go over names, and it'll come to you. Really. Consider what significance you want the name to have...such as a namesake or a special meaning. Take your time. I named my children after gods and goddesses based on attributes I hoped for them. My oldest is Aurora Athena. I wanted her to be beautiful like the sunrise(Aurora) and intelligent and strong(Athena). But don't be too worried about what others think about the baby's name. There will always be someone with negative opinions. I had alot of people trying to tell me that the names I chose for my children were bad ideas. But I stuck by them, and my children love their names. Which I think is the most important thing. Just go with your instinct.

I let the father choose the first name of my first son and the other two I have picked based only on the fact that I love the names I chose. I am expecting in July and my Mom doesnt care for my chosen name but you know what? Im birthing this baby not her or anyone else so my opinion is what matters most. Good luck to you.

no matter what name u choose u will get negative reactions from at least one person. the trick is not to tell anyone the name u have chosen till the baby is born.

if u know what the gender is, go through a list of those names and go for your first instinct. go for a name only u and ur husband absolutely love.

don't get offended on here, people are just saying their opinions.

I think you'd choose a name that makes you smile and sounds right to you! Anyways, a name reflects a person's soul!
