I would recommend Graphic Design. As a designer myself and working with other Designers and Art Directors, it would be your best bet. Being an Art Director doesn't just happen once you graduate. You have to put a lot of time in as a designer before you can reach this postion. Having the background as a designer will only help you become a better Art Director when that time comes.

Having worked in a number of capacities as an artist, I personally would focus on graphic design. I think it would expand your knowledge base so that in time you could become a better art director should you decide that's what you still want. Generally art director's have to pay their dues as an artist for some time before being placed in charge..

Being an Art Director takes more organizational and interpersonal skills - you'd be dealing with salesmen, advertising clients, artists, editors, writers, all the way down to printers, publishers & distributors. It can be pretty high-stress.
There's more "art" in Graphic design, but your artistic expression isn't going to be put to any use for many years. And if you're at the bottom of the heap, it may be longer.
Go for the career that suits your personality better - directors are extroverts, happy working with many different people. Designers generally are more introverted, more comfortable working on their own.

graphic design....better backgrounding and better options including, after time, art director. By the time you go to school, and graduate, you may find either choice superfluous. Art is wonderful so enjoy it no matter what.

ok, i did no longer examine all of that. yet, if drawing/portray/etc on tangible surfaces like paper is what you like, i might flow with Studio artwork. besides the fact that, you will possibly be able to locate concern getting a activity in case you finally end up achieved with college. photograph layout isn't as centred on drawing, and a great number of that's computing gadget-based. on the different hand, photograph layout is a reasonably great field, and in case you have have been given a sturdy portfolio, you will possibly desire to have the flexibility to locate a activity genuinely. i think of what you will possibly desire to do is analyze colleges you're interested in attending, and flow communicate with an adviser or dean at one (or extra) of those colleges. As working experts, they are in a position to probable provide you extra ideal suggestion than many human beings on Yahoo solutions.
