Dorsal means, "the part which is facing up". Even if it is monocot, the dorsal part faces sunlight. The dark green or the ventral side (away from sun) faces the shadow. Following are the websites where you can get the information on leaves. Specially the 2nd one. Have fun!!

The dorsal side of anything is the top side, or the one that typically faces up and the ventral side is the side that faces down, just like if u look at your hand for instance the dorsal side is the top of your hand with knuckles and the ventral would be the inside or botton of your hand

Dorsal side of a leaf is the one which faces the sun. Dorsal side has more of chloroplast, it is exposed to sun and so that it's chloroplast gets used in the photosynthesis. This side is smooth and darker in colour due to abundance of chloroplast.

The ventral side is the one below. It is rough. It has got less of chloroplast..coz i is not exposed to sun, and hence it is lighter in colour. The stomatas are more hear.....the stomatas are less on top coz it may lead to water loss..

..This leaf is also called Dorsal-Ventral leaf

The other is iso-billateral leaf ...where both the sides of the leaf are alike

You can go to www.ncert.nic.in ....go there and click on online textbooks....then in the subject write scince...and in the class take X or X(new)........then you will see the index of the textbook ..click on life process and in that chapter you have the explanayion for this.......inX(new) there is not much ...So go for X only

Dorsal is ''back'' & ventral is ''front''.
In leaves, the side that has ''ribs'' visible to the eye, is the dorsal side .
Go to wikipedia.com , hopefully u might find what u require there...... Gd luck !!!!!!!!

the dorsal side the exposed portion, the ventral side means the underneath portion. by this defination itself we can know that the dorsal side only faces the sun.
