They can especially if they let Karl Rove out. He is very good at character assassination
Also if the Dems cannibalize each other and don't have a message that can be simply explained, sounds plausible as well as feasible.

Are politicains from either ever really trustworthy?
That depends on what the Democrats offer the people. If the people like their offering better than the Republican one --Yes. If they don't --No.
Who really knows if the Democrats can retain both houses of Congress. They have aboit 18 months to do something constructive. If they don't do anything they could lose control there.
Frankly I like it better when there is a Republican controlled Congress and Democrat controlled White House.

If the Republicans can grow a pair and stop backing the neocons they may be able to retrieve some of their lost honor and retain many seats. By allowing neocons to control their agenda they have sold themselves out to devils. They need to get back to being good old fashioned conservatives as in Goldwater or Reagan. At this point in time, I trust nothing the powers that be in the Republican party have to say on any subject. If their mouths are moving, they are lying to me.

I feel that George Bush has fixed the repuglican party for quite some time, and if the repugs in congress don't distance themselves far away from him they might not win enough seats to even be an effective opposition. The white house is the democrats to lose at this point in time.

Don't give up on the Republican party just because the current leaders are a bunch of smucks.
I see less hope of the Democratic party cleaning out its far leftist candidates than the Republican party getting rid of the numskulls in charge now.

Of course they can. They have made the tough choices. The economy is doing well, existing home sales are there highest in three years, the Dow is up, unemployment is low, the tax cuts have obviously worked...the Dem's present a very dark and dismal outlook, they have not offered their voters anything yet...The Dem's can't win on the platform of trying to create scandals to take the focus off of their inept ability to do anything positive.

The Republicans are swaying from the religious right, look at who their front runners are.
The "old" Republican party is coming back.... not a minute to late.
I do hope Fred Thompson announces soon.

Of course they are not trust worthy as political party, no political party is.
You have to find an individual candidate that you believe is trust worthy and vote for them, and the hope that they don't turn out to be party puppets.

Sure... you can trust them to further pilfer the U.S. Treasury. You can trust them to piss in the face of the average American. You can trust them to start more wars. You can trust them to give the rich more tax deductions. You can trust them to burn the Constitution. You can trust them to screw the American people at every turn. Need I say more?
