The auto tranmission shift cable broke and needs to be replaced. The transmission end is easy to get to but where does the other end attach? If it is in the center console, how do I get the console apart? I removed the 4 screws that I could find on the console, 2 in the front and 2 in the back in the bottom of the console, but the console still won't come apart.

Are you sure of that part #? The local GM parts house said it is a part# 22678830 and quoted $74.52.

The part is probably under $100, and the labor is probably under $100. If you can't get to the bottom of the shifter, you will really have fun with the area where it passes through the floor.
