To turn left, lean your weight left. To turn right, lean your weight right.

It's totally possible , as well as the whole point. The basic (easier) way is to put more weight on your back foot until the nose comes up, then swivel your hips to turn it. This is the beginner way and wont work if you have any speed. The trucks on your board are designed to turn toward each other when weight is applied to that side.Stand on your board when you're not moving and lean on your toes.If you look at your wheels, you will see them moving closer to eachother. This will make you turn right (called a toeside turn). Lean on your heels and you will turn left (what a surprise called a heelside turn) Start out slow and just get the feel for it-it will come. Also, though, if you are this early in your skate career, you should get some pro (knee pads and wrist guards are the most important. I'd say maybe a helmet too. It's not nerdy- I wear one snowboarding and I race and have been doing it for 24 years.) Nobody wants to end up a vegetable! Maybe find some other skaters in your area who can give you some beta . Have fun! See you out there. *** This info refers to a "regular" stance which is left foot forward. If you are "goofy" right foot forward, just switch the directions I gave you meaning a heelside goes right and a toeside goes left.

while standin on your board you can controll the direction that your going by your balance.
ex. if you want to go right then lean right, if left then lean left.
NOW if your on a ramp then just to a top spin off the top
