Most pregnancy test detects for the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) that is only produced once the fertilized egg has implanted in the uterine wall. Most medicines, over-the-counter and prescription, including birth control pills and antibiotics, should not affect the results of a home pregnancy test. Only medicines that have the pregnancy hormone hCG in them can give a false positive test result.
A false positive is when a test says you are pregnant when you're not. This does not happen with ovarian cysts BUT can happen with ectopic pregnancy.
Ectopic pregnancy have a fertilized egg which implants on the walls of the fallopian tubes and not within the uterine wall. But the fetus cannot grow to more than 3 months since the fallopian tube is not elastic and cannot expand as the baby grows, so it will only lead to rupture and immediate surgery is needed to remove it.
Another quirk of nature, sometimes pregnancy test comes out positive in cases of BLIGHTED OVUM.
Blighted ovum is a condition wherein there is a gestational sac formed producing the hCG pregnancy hormone but no actual fetus is formed. Eventually this cases are voluntarily aborted by the body at 3 months gestation.

A pelvic ultrasound can better help you detect a true pregnancy.

I had an ovarian cyst but the symptoms are much different from pregnancy symptoms. You tend to bleed for a long period of time and have alot of stomach pains. mine was so bad i had to go to the hospital. But when I took my pregnancy test, I was two weeks at the time and I felt nauseated and I had missed my period. My breast even started to grow. But my best answer is go to the hospital if you have any doubts and they will do an overall check up. Good Luck!!!!

well, honestly, i have never had the need 2 take a pregnancy test so this is just knowledge from my yr 11 health class at school...
If a pregnancy test is positive, its right, there is no doubt about it, you are pregnent, because the test looks for a hormone that is only ever produced when you are pregnant.
Sorry if thats not the news u were looking 4... but if it is Congratulations!!!

A positive result means only one thing - You are pregnant.
Nothing else.
It detects the hormone that your body only develops by being pregnant.
Whoever told you differently does not know what they are talking about.
I had sore breats, and a definite sign is the small bumps around the areola. These are actually glands that help keep the nipple moisturized for nursing.
Also, a feeling of fullness in the lower belly.

Sometimes with a tubal pregnancy, but not all the time, a home test cannot pick up the HCG hormone unless you are a little further along. A blood test is more accurate in those cases.

I never had one come up positive for anyother reason, but my friend had a "tubal" pregnancy and her right arm was in severe pain, her lower stomach area hurt like heck and she thought that she had pulled some type of muscle. she knew that she was pregnant but this all happened when she was like 10 weeks along.

Go get a scan at a free clinic to be sure it isn't ectopic. That's what I did and it was free and they saw the baby right away.

Eptopic, yes. Cysts, no. You will experience sharp pain and will know somethings not right. If you have that feeling, trust your instinct and go have it checked. Good luck!
