No. She would swat me on the butt at times with her bare hand. She didn't embarrass me by pulling my pants down , first. She simply needed to show me that she was unsatisfied with my demonstrated behavior. I learned quickly that I either behaved, or at least be smart enough to not get caught.
My mother had nine children (seven daughters and two sons), I was the son that was third from the youngest. I went to Catholic school where guilt was the main motivator. Not to say that there weren't physically abusive nuns, because, yes, there were more than enough to go around.
I have never hit, spanked, yelled-at, or embarrassed my three sons (25, 15, 9). We simply talk, or more often just give a look to each other.
So far, at 54 y/o, I have had a very good, happy, independant life. I don't stick with people that abuse others, either visibly, physically, emotionally, or behind others backs. Too many good people, to stick with a looser. My role in life if to be positive, and be a positive roll model, not take responsibility for all the screwed-up shits of both sexes.
I would much prefer to run away to a far away place, than to stay around and feel abused. Society often says "Stay where you are, don't run away, because your problems are still going to be there when you get back." I prefer to say "Run away, take a break, see if other people treat you well, or if it is possibly you that is the problem. Running away is far preferable to acting out in violent ways, including suicide."
So, no my mama did not hit me with a switch. Even though once, as I ran upstairs to my bedroom, I yelled at her "You booger!" She couldn't stop laughing.

No, not at all nor my father. It was just understood that they were the boss. How unique by today's standards.

I'm still growing up and that's happend alot lol...but only when I deserve it and I know it's for my own good so....ya know lol.
