Words and Pictures was the children's school programme, and the orange cube was Wordy.

As a kid I loved the programme. And thought it was such a treat to watch it at home when I was sick. How sad it that!

To be honest it was a far better educational show than the ones they have for children these days.

I agree with Emma - it's definitely Look and Read.

The orange thing was called Wordie and he always reminded me of a floating Vax hoover!!

The scariest story was "The Boy From Space". A spaceship landed in a disused quarry-type place with a young boy and an older man. They were both really pale with blue space suits and the man had a zapper thing which could make you disappear.

The boy made friends with a local kid and there was a chase scene near the quarry with zapper man catching up with the kid .

Scared the hell out of me when I was about 8 (still creeps me out now)!!

Think the character was called Wordy but can't remember the name of the programme. Sorry!

I remember but he didn't have any legs.

I think his name was wordie but I'm banging my head on the keyboard trying to think of the name of it.

It was different sketches for different things like word play and nouns and vowles and stuff wasn't it?

The thing that sticks in my head most about is MAGIC E

If it comes to me i'll post back

I think the last answerers are correct.

I don't think it was words and pictures because I used to love that and I don't remember a little orange man!

It's Word and Pictures, the character you describe, actually had no legs and would float about and was called 'Wordy'
