andygurl i agree with you in one way but in another i dont!!! what if now that rooney plays a stormer and scores a class goal or scores a hatrick tomorrow??? everyone will be saying he did right by haveing a go at him because it got a good response!!! ( in other words it gave rooney a kick up the a r s e!!!) but if it dont work people will blame mclaren anyway!!!!! he cant win! im not mclaren s biggest fan myself but i think the players are more to blame!!!! they should wear that shirt with pride and when they put that shirt on should play with a passion!!! if they can perform for there clubs they should be doing it for there national team!!! im embarrased by them!

He was a prat!! Is this the way to get the best from a player with so much talent who is having a bit of a hard time. What a total lack of understanding that shows in McClarens understanding of what unfolded against Israel. That's like saying that it's only Rooney's responsibility to score and to win. They either lose as a team or win as a team. No one was any better or worse than any other. That was absolutely disrespectful for a person in his position. So there is no need for defenders or play makers just for Rooney to score..Pretty pointless if others are not doing their jobs either to give him the service he needs and that includes McClaren himself. How exactly is he doing his job.

Add: Oh I agree that they need to lift their game and dig deep to find their drive and pride. I think a lot of the player performances are born of frustration at not living up to expectations and delivering the result everyone including them want . Perhaps they try too hard rather than let their ability and flow of the game take control. But it makes it very hard on the players to play when the manager, who is out of his depth, is instructing them to play a certain way and not adjusting when it's evidently not working. Crushing a players confidence through humiliating them, no matter which player, is not the way to inspire a united team. Gerrard has come to Rooney's defence admitting the team have not given him many opportunities to capitalise. If Wayne comes out and has a cracker of a game, I bet it's because Sir Alex gives him some encouragement and advice. Under no circumstances should a manager degrade a player. It's just not right. Constructive criticism is warranted but that's not what McClaren offered to a certain 6 players in the sheds.

No. If he wants to have a go at anybody he should have a go at Lampard, except for two shots on goal he was abysmal.
