This depends on what your PC is, many PCs come with no back up discs. Many like Packard Bell Hewlett Packard etc have a hidden partition containing all the data required to return your computer to factory settings. Look through your start menu for something called documentation, or something similar. Run this and you will get all the instructions for recovery etc. My Packard Bell gives the option to create recovery discs. This is the best option as if your hard drive fails your recovery software goes with it. If you cannot find anything to help you on the computer get in touch with your supplier for help. Hope this helps.

Few weeks ago same problem I have faced. Hard drive all of sudden stopped Recovery was inside, I had never made back up of that because it had needed more than 11 CD-R 700MB. So, I asked the maker and they offered Recovery on DVD by a minor charges in US$ around 55. If you like ask the maker if they can offer you recovery disk .

As far as my knowledge is concerned I think you have to use back up files program which is pre-installed in pc because no other software did in my case all software do back up but for entire hard drive.

If your pc is not too old you can get help from maker.

Wish you success

DON'T CLICK ON Jessica R's answer. It takes you to one of those sites that wants to scan your computer. Hope she gets banned so if anyone from Yahoo reads the answers as well as the qustion then BAN her.

To run off a recovery CD DONT use a cd or 11 of them as stated above. Buy some dual layer DVD's. You will get all of your recovery items on 2 DVD's. If you can't find any dual layer dvd's then use normal dvd discs and you will need 4.

Hope this helps

The laptop should have come with either an original copy of Vista, or a recovery disc capable of re-installing Vista. If you have neither, contact the people you purchased it from, and insist they sort this out for you.

Microsoft wants you to throw money at the problem, and buy a new CD for about $200. Much better, however is to get a good open source operating system, for free, such as kubuntu at www.kubuntu.org, and you wont have that hassel.

some companies have pre-installed vista, which you can say as BETA VERSION. you can revert back to xp on most computers. To use vista with all accessories you will have to buy from giant...Microsoft.
