At 4am I was woken by THE WORST calf cramp I've ever had! I couldn't put any weight on that leg or even move it the slightest bit without it cramping again.

I have been able to walk today but with a limp, because my calf is still so tight and still feels like a rock, but not as bad as it was at 4am.

17 hours later - should it be completely gone? I rarely get cramps but I don't remember one ever lasting this long.

Ouch. I used to have them all the time when I was prego with child #3.
You are still sore. I'd take a hot shower, and rub your leg with a ben gay type lotion.
Try to work the knot out without tensing up.

You may be sore all of today. Relax take some motrin
and eat a banana for potassium.

Not long at all if you grab your big toe and pull it towards you, keeping the leg rigid. If you keep getting them and especially bad ones, you should be speaking to your quack .
