What is the meaning of this song? Is there a deeper meaning than just the lyrics of the song?

As I understand it, the lyrics refer to the time when the loony fundamentalists in the US boycotted the Dixie Chicks over their opposition to the invasion of Iraq.
They had a tough time, with their records being burnt etc and none of the mainstream radio stations playing their songs. After a while all this was forgotten and, as the rest of America got the anti-war feeling, the Dixies became popular again. The lyrics refer to this - they're saying why the hell should we play nice just because you lot have decided to be nice to us at last?

When the anti-Bush comments were made, it took alot of courage for them to continue to perform, especially in the so-called redneck genre. Now that the opinion on the war has changed and more people are seeing their point of view, they still remember people like Sunny, who continue with their "America love it or leave it, right or wrong mentality".

it was in response to the political uproar that occured after they made some anti-Bush comments. It was their way of 'digging their heels in' girl-power style!
