It will result in a negative. 3/4 is smaller than 1 1/2 so it will have to be negative 3/4.

I think is fractions since u did not state it in your Ques. 1 1/2=3/2 3/4-3/2=4x1=4 2x2=4 3/2=12/4
12/4-3/4=9/4

Is this a trick question? If a number is subracted from a smaller number, then the number will always be negative. Having +(-3/4) is the only thing I can think of, I don't know if you would classify that as a full answer though since it can be simplyfied. That's all I can say to help.

- 3/4 because you have to change the 1 1/2 into a mixed number first. Then you subtract it.

If you know the sign rules you'd guess that,
a - b = - ( b - a ) , where a < b (where a is smaller than b)
Illustration,
3 - 4 = - ( 4 - 3)
= - ( 1 )
= -1
Now look at your calculation, ( 3/4 = 0.75 and 1 1/2 = 1.5 )
0.75 - 1.5 = - ( 1.5 - 0.75 )
= - ( 0.75 )
= - 0.75 ------> Answer!!
N.B.: You should know the sign rules and you should know how to deal with brackets.
Hope it helps!!
