Jack was trying to get away from the overbearing Jill and merely ran up the hill unbeknown to him that was where Jill was headed to fetch water.. just like the bones she would fetch or the cars she would chase.

To fetch a pail of water, or at least that's what they told everybody. But in reality, she lured him up to beat the daylight out of him. She broke his crown and went running after him down hill to finish him off!
