The pain from your ankle could be from not properly exercising your ankle after the injury. Ask your doctor to recommend a good physical therapist (or check on-line). The therapist will (should) show you some good techniques (exercises) to help build up your muscles in your ankle. If the pain still persists, the therapist can make recommendations to your doctor for course of action.

As I've never had a broken ankle all I can really offer is sympathy and ideas...
Why not try arnica - it's good for easing bruising (including bone bruising) and promoting healing. There are other more specific homeopathic remedies which can be fairly expensive but will be made up for you to suit your exact problem and lifestyle. And, whatever the sceptics say, I know they work!
Have you tried any of the OTC treatments, like neurofen gel - though this would not be useful for long term treatment, it may help you in the short term or on special occasions...
Make sure you have sufficient Calcium and Vitamin D in your diet; I don't know if this will ease the pain much, but it should help healthy regrowth. You can buy supplements of both together in boots, designed for healthy bones...
It might also be worth going to see another doctor - you shouldn't have to still be in pain, though you may need a little more patience, annoying though it is! A broken ankle is a big thing for the body to get over, so it may just be that in six months' time, you'll be bright as ninepence again!
Hope you feel better soon.

GO to a different doctor and ask to be referred for some physio. You may need to tone up and strengthen muscles and tendons around the ankle.
