I have a hp photosmart c3100 printer. I thought I just set it to black and white or grayscale, but it still it printing the colored parts of the page in color and not the whole thing in black and white. How do I change this.

If a printer is using a color and also a black and white cartridge, it isn't using the color cartridge to make up the black ink instead of the black and whilte cartridge, is it? I think some printers do that.

I have an HP...you should be able to set the colour every time you send something to print. When you click on print, a screen may come up asking which printer, or how many copies. There is a "preferences" button. Click on it and another box will appear. Click on paper/quality and here you will have the option to print in colour or black and white.

If your printer has a "black" button, then obviously that's the simplest way. If not, when the printing starts, you should get a dialogue box that enables you to select the print properties, at which time you can specify something like "black and white" or "grayscale."

You must select file->printing properties and then set your printer to print in black and white. Good Luck!
