Tumi - If your solution to AA were implemented then why would you need it? You are suggesting hiring people on merit but AA hires people on racial lines. BEE is no more than transferring wealth from already well established Companies from Whites into the hands of a few Black people. Can you name one BEE Company that started from scratch with a Black entrepreneur at the helm and is successful? What I am trying to say to you is that BEE does not encourage entrepreunership amongst amongst Black people but serves only to hand wealth to the elite few at the hands of Whites.

Tumi - I dont know that it can be solved without attracting back the skills and intellectual property that was driven out of the Country.Black people have been severely handicapped through previous education policies and also through the ANC's "Liberation before Education" slogans. it is going to take years to overcome the education matter but what I would have done is incentivise every Company to employ more Black people without dismissing/retrenching those currently in positions where they had the skills. Then I would have had these skilled people mentor the Black people coming into the position so that there was a hand over of not only jobs but the skills to do the jobs efficiently. In the same breath I would have guaranteed those already in the positions job security so they didnt flee the Country. I would have done this at all levels so that the transition was smooth and orderly and Companies were rewarded for their efforts. AA ( or Employment Equity) works on threats and fines.

Yup that pretty much sums it up. You have a bunch of geese that lay golden eggs but you decide to kill them off for the pot. Then replace each of the ones you ate with a chicken, hoping that the chicken will learn to lay golden eggs because it must have the potential to do it right?

Well all AA and BEE is trying to do is to get the balance right, with black and white people getting the jobs they deserve. I agree with AA but only if the people chosen for those position can do those jobs. But most who are by the way employed by the over pressured white people are just window dressing so that they can just write on their labour reports that they have this amount of black people working for them.
So yes it is a pretty useless exercise when more people who are not qualified for those jobs get them. So well if the black people stop napotism and hired people on merit and if white people stopped hiring black people for window dressing I think that AA would actually work well.

Addition.
I hear you and I actually agree with you these fat cats are getting fatter while more people starve out there. So if people were true and really it was on merit we would have a chance, so now that we have identified the problem, how do you suggest we solve it?

That my friend would happen in the ideal world where you and I don't live. People are pushing their own agendas and are doing things subjectively instead of being objective. That should really be the way it was done. But the problem here is you have a bunch o white people who do not like black people much and they have to pass on their skill to them, then you get black people who see white people as the enemy why would they do anything to make those whites feel comfortable. So here it is, we do not want to work together cos we are still very much wounded by apartheid both races by the way. So it will take time and I think that sometime you must distroy in order to re-build. So let's see where it all goes

Yes, the African philosophy after independence of most African states was/is "Rather starve than have white representation or equality", it is a reality and unfortunately disturbing.
Government mouth pieces like the SABC make it pretty easy for governments like the ANC to fool their ignorant following into pretty much believing any incoherent rubbish they can come up with.
BEE and AA will eventually criple the South African economy, give it a bit more time, one can already feel their impact when dealing with government departments and parastatals, the new homes of the uneducated and illiterate. Service delivery in South Africa is already non existent and worsening by the day.

I even have worked lots of places that could hire purely white group in the event that they might (for specific jobs), because of the fact of social biases that are risky. i've got faith Affirmative action became an reason to interrupt that norm and combine the workplace because it happened interior the universities. i do no longer think of that is a robust regulation. in spite of if it became needed.

I don't know about that... the masses here in the U.S. and similarly uninformed and apathetic when it comes to voting in leaders. I think there is culture of corruption that surpasses even the U.S. system AND there is a relatively lack of familiarity with democracy (it may be still be in a developmental stage). ?
