What did he lie to you about exactly-- his career, etc?
there are people who have to fake their way through life because they can't read due to learning disabilities like dyslexia. You dont give us much background info on this one so I'm not sure what the context is.

Being illiterate isn't a bad thing, ignorance is.
Lying is also bad, but he was probably just ashamed to tell you.
Why is he illiterate? Does he have dyslexia or some other condition that has prevented him from learning to read and write?
If you really like him, there are things you can do to help him. If he doesn't want to learn, be patient with him and understand that there is probably a lot of pent-up frustration over it. Does he like comic books? I once tutored a group of year 8's (here in Western Australia that translates to first year high-schoolers, aged 13). Comic books worked a treat and by the end of the year they had pretty much caught up with their peers.

I can't see why literacy should have anything to do with whether or not to continue in a relationship. Was that what he lied about? A lot of people lie about being unable to read & write because they feel ashamed. A little compassion would be good.
Or...Was the lie about something else entirely?
If so, I'd think twice about staying with anyone I didn't feel I could trust to be honest with me.

what was the lie? If it was that hes illiterate, then why not get him help. Im sure he was embarrased to tell you that he cant read or write. Did you love him before you found out????
Is he still the same person??? Yes ild stay with him if I loved him. I would however urge him to go get help, to learn to read and write.
good luck

If that was the only thing he lied to you about, I wouldn't leave. In many states, it takes years to find a volunteer to help those who have those problems. Most people I have met that can't read, are embarrassed and ashamed. It is truly a sad thing to deal with.

If you want to work on it maybe you can buy him a Cat in the Hat book and teach him to read. If not you should be on your merry way.

he is covering it up due to embarrassment and not wanting u to leave him. but being a liar causes bad relationships, if u have a liar, how can one ever work out problems, or talk about issues? best to distance yourself.

I think you can help him learn to read and write. That would not be a reason for me to leave someone.
