A friend of mine is cleaning house and has over a hundred old vinyl records and is going to throw them out. I was wondering if there is something better he can do with them - like sell them or give them to someone. Any ideas? Or is dumping them the best course of action? Thanks.

Only if they are in really good shape they are. They can't be scratched at all and the album jacket has to be in like mint condition. A friend of mine has a Beatles "White" album that has never been opened before and actually still is wrapped in lamination from the store. It's worth several hundred dollars.

Yes, However that depends on a whole lot of things. Both sleeve, inner sleeve and the actual vinyl itself must be in good condition. The nearer they are to "as bought" the better.
Obviously the artist and the titles count as well!
If you look up, say recordcollector mag or even on eBay that will give you an idea.

Depends:

Keep tthe ones like elvis, beetles.... It's a hit or miss - there are albums that are worth tons of money (if you have the one) But, I would say the majority of them are not worth anything.

Some of them would be worth something! (some lots! $) Heaps of people collect them. You could sell them to a record exchange.
