I wonder if this was meant to be

L³ + LM² - 3L² - 3M²
= L³ - 3L² + LM² - 3M²
= L²(L - 3) + M²(L - 3)
=(L - 3)(L² + M²)

Otherwise nothing really sensible can be done to the expression

sumzrfun is right!

Otherwise you get something like:

C^3+LM-3L^2-3M^2
= C^3-3L^2-3M^2+LM
=C^3-3L(L)-3M(M)+LM

I suspect that this problem is a joke - as all your variables are Roman numerals, so...

100^2 + 50,000 - 3*50^2 - 3,000,000 =

= 60,000 - 3,007,500 = -2,947,500
