Syria is much like Turky, Islamic country.
You will find lots about Syria here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syria
You wont find lots of modern stuff in Syria, lets say it is like an eastern Europian country, but we are developing slowly.
In daily live, we have almost everything cheap, if you have a 1000$ salary then you will live as a queen! and you will find anything you want!
One of the things that makes Syria uniqe in my opinion is the importance of the family among Syrian families. Most people live with or near the extended family. Syrians place a high priority on mutual support and acting in the best interests of the family and its reputation, the majority of social activities are arranged on a family basis. The father is usually considered the undisputed head of the family. The elderly are shown particular respect.
Syrians welcome people with an outstretched hand while saying Marhaba (“Hello”). When greeting a man, one may also say Keef haalak? (“How are you?”) to inquire about the other person’s health. When greeting a woman, one says Keef haalek? Men may embrace each other in greeting, depending on the degree of their relationship, and female friends exchange kisses on both cheeks.
Things I hate about living in Damascus the capital city:
- The streets are in a mess, i wish we will have an organized traffic one day!
- The maximum salary i would get if i worked as an engineer is gonna be less than 500$ here "spe working for governement"
- We have a bad system whos controling everything and sucking all the money that should be givin to the people.
things I like about living here:
- there is good places to have fun, the beach is my fav
- everything is cheap
- the people are so friendly in general
- piracy, lol. i know thats bad, but no one affored to buy the original CDs so I can get ANY CD for less than 2$ :D
Thats all in my mind now.. hope you got a little background about Syria, where are you from? Macedonia?
